Apple Brown Betty


INGREDIENTS:
Butter 4 oz
Fresh breadcrumbs 12 oz
Apple 2 kg (peeled and sliced)
Caster sugar 8 oz
Juice of 2 lemon
Cinnamon 2-4 tsp (ground)
Nutmeg 2 pinch (grated)
Extra caster sugar to sprinkle

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Melt butter in a pan and add the breadcrumbs.
  2. Stir for 5-8 minutes until crisp and golden and remove from heat.
  3. Toss apple with caster sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon and nutmeg.
  4. Put 1/2 of the breadcrumbs in a greased oven-proof dish.
  5. Top with half apples, more breadcrumbs, apples again, keep layering till apples and crumbs are used.
  6. Spoon any liquid in the bowl.
  7. Top with extra caster sugar.Now cover the dish with foil.
  8. Bake at 200 degrees C for about 25 minutes until apples are tender and top is golden.
  9. Now serve it.
